Taliesin West

Go Frank Lloyd!!! Even though he was a shit in real life and his roofs all seemed to leak...GOD his stuff is beautiful.

Still and all...I'm glad to live where I live and have the roof that I have.

Clearly, I was closer to the stone structure than when I snapped the pic on my way out. Paintings were done on my way in, photos on the way out...bad idea...

I tried to get back to where I was sitting in front of the fountain to take that picture after our tour but (a) the sun had moved and (b) there was a very large man who clearly didn't like me at all sitting in my chair...so...I Kinneared the fountain and kept moving.

Painting Class

Here's the progression of work in my Pocket Sketching class--a three day course in how to train yourself to do 25 minutes or less sketches of one's surroundings. Not unhappy with the first day's progress at all.

Monochromatic Wash

using Pilot "Razor" pen and water.

Sedona

orig atop. 5 min on rt, 15 min on left.

12 MInute Sketch

10 Minute Sketch

Rocks and Water

painted by credit card--V cool technique

First try at "editing"

This was hard. Of the three picture choices we had this seemed the easiest to me--and I think it was--but picking what to paint of the much larger pic was not easy...I'm still not sure I did it "right"...

Last 10 minutes of first day

It wasn't NEARLY as hard to edit this one...

Praterposte is just another way to say FRIEND!

You know how we-who-live-on-the-internet have learned how to "hear" people when they write. Cheryl over at Praterposte  is one of those people for me...much like Dawn. She and her partner-in-craft Debbie have written a book I reviewed on the podcast and because I am a Craft-ho (and pretty liberal with the praise when I like something) we've been corresponding.

Aside from the gorgeousness of all art Cheryl and Debbie create, and the wonderfulness of their book, there's a little matter of a broken arm. Check out yesterday's post on Cheryl's blog to see what I will now forever think of in those "it could have been worse" moments...when I'm not thinking of dinner forks...

Obsidian Wings: There’s, Of Course In The Great History Of America There Have Been Rulings ...

Obsidian Wings: There’s, Of Course In The Great History Of America There Have Been Rulings ...

I was particularly impressed with the analysis that follows this. I know people see what they want to see and (it's statistically proven now) won't really "listen" to anyone who doesn't fundamentally share their opinions...but I have to say, I think McCain's first two choices were stronger--and would ultimately been more of a threat to Obama.

And, truly, I think it's unfair of McCain's Camp to have put this otherwise-accomplished woman out there where she isn't qualified. Talk about a sitting duck. Just horrible. Not that she can't take care of herself if armed and all... just that I've seen the media at work from the other side.

Not fair.
Not fair at all.
Not good for any of us.
